INTRODUCTION |

This competition was to design a 'Maze'. The dimensions were to be 60'.00"
X 66'.00" My intention was to create a 'false' direct route to the centre of the maze - the visitor would then find that admittance from there was not possible. It was also my intention to provide a 'simple' route for the elderly or infirm that would not be too taxing and possibly causing distress. The simple route was from a separate entrance 'suitably marked'. The whole design is based on a 'Grid' (see drawing no. 1) and the pathways and heges are to follow this diagonal principle. The hedges are to be planted in Yew (Taxus baccata) at 2'.00" centres (0.6 metres). The
pathways are in gravel finish to keep costs down. |
