NEW JIGSAW FIASCO - CONTINUED

06 JANUARY 2009

Well after several telephone calls between me and the suppliers, it appears that ALL of the Ryobi jigs saws of this model are the same. (They all run backwards then).
Not satisfied with this I decided to contact another Ryobi dealer in Truro.  They had one in stock and offered to unpack it and test it for me.
After explaining the problem they offered to contact their local Ryobi agent to ask if he had heard of the problem.
The outcome was that he confirmed that this model does in fact run backwards.
I fail to understand the logic of this (all jigsaw blades are designed with the teeth pointing upwards so that they cut on the upward stroke - apart that is from specialists blades for cutting laminates etc.)
The saw was no use to me (it simply did not cut wood- no surprise to me) and so I contacted the suppliers again and they siad they would give me a complete refund if that was what I wanted.

I decided however to exchange the saw for a Ryobi circular hand saw - (uses the same 'ONE +' battery sytem)

I sent the jigsaw back and they sent me the new circular saw in exchange.  They also added a spare tungsten tipped blade by way of compensation.

I actually did quite well on this deal because the circular saw was considerably more costly that the jigsaw.

My advice to anyone contemplating a battery operated jigsaw is DO NO BY THE RYOBI.

I am however very happy with the circular saw - cuts very nicely and is well balanced.
