What shall I do with my time now that I am retired ?
(I don't think that will be a problem)

MINIATURE DUMPY LEVEL

26 OCTOBER 2008

This is a model of a typical 'Dumpy' level I have just acquired.
It is purely 'ornamental' but it is an exact replica of the type of level I have used on many occasions during my working life.
Although only a 'model', it does actually have all parts fully functional - including the viewing lens with focusing control and 'true to the actual thing' the image is upside down.
These levels are very accurate and are used on building and civil engineering sites for establishing vertical level datum’s for such things as drainage, roadwork’s and foundations and for such things as ground level surveys etc.
Today they have largely been superseded by laser technology - so - to me this is a souvenir and a reminder of many happy (and some not so happy) days spent on various sites putting in levels for drainage, foundations, floor slab levels etc.

I saw it - I liked it - so I bought it.
