My 'Beginners Garden' was my entry for the Sunday Times Garden Design Competition in 1988.
My entry did not win a prize although it was 'highly commended'.

Shortly after the competiton results had been announced, I received a letter from 'Capel Manor' (see Testimonials page) stating that they wished to build my 'Beginners Garden' at the first ever 'Hampton Court Garden Festival' in 19999.

I understand that this was at the suggestion of Mr. Peter Seabrook (who was one of the judges for the Sunday Times )

The garden was to built by the students at Capel Manor as their exhibit.

One of the features of this garden was the use of wooden 'fruit trays' available from greengrocers (then but not now) to construct the dividing fence (see detail drawing)
